Abacus Property Group (ABP) is a company involved in diversified property investing and fund managing. Abacus provides portfolio exposure to commercial, retail, and industrial property, mortgage investments, development syndicates and property funds management interests. ABP was listed on the Australian sharemarket on 14 November, 2002.
Abacus Property Group Company History
In April 1996, Abacus Funds Management Limited was formed as subsidiary of Godfrey Pembroke Limited to source and package property-based investment opportunities for high net worth clients of GPL financial planners. Three years later Abacus becomes independent of GPL and broadens distribution network. In August 2001, a number of trusts and a small development company it established between 1996-1999 was merged by Abacus to form the Abacus Property Group, a stapled structure consisting of a trust and a company which had an initial $280 million worth of gross assets which included eight investment properties and a portfolio of high yielding mortgages. The year after in October, Abacus Property Group acquires the business of Abacus Funds Management to form an integrated property investment group with an internal management structure. The Group's business activities now include property investment, property finance, funds management and joint venture projects. In November, the Group is listed onto the Australian Stock Exchange with a total asset holding of $420 million and total assets under management of over $450 million.
In 2006, March, merges with the Abacus Diversified Income Fund, increasing Group assets to $835 million. Total assets under management exceed $1 billion. A year later, in March 2007 the company hit another milestone having been included in the S&P/ASX300 Index when assets under management is now over $1.8 billion. Momentum builds in in less than a year, in February 2008, ABP is managing $2.3 billion of assets and is included in the S&P/ASX200 Index.
