Allied Healthcare Group (AHZ) is a healthcare company involved in the research and development and commercialisation of new medical devices and technologies. The Company focuses on commercializing tissue engineering technology for use in cardiovascular and soft tissue repair surgery. AHZ comprises four businesses: Coridon; Celxcel; Allied Medical Ltd; and Medevco. Allied Healthcare Group was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on 24 March 2004.

Coridon
Coridon, a company focused on developing next generation DNA vaccines, was founded by Professor Ian Frazer, Australian of the Year 2006. Prof Frazer is well recognised for his groundbreaking research that led to Merck & Co.’s highly successful cervical cancer vaccine, Gardasil®.

Through Coridon, Prof Frazer is working to expand his success with Gardasil by developing vaccines from patented technology that can be applied to a range of infectious diseases in humans.

Coridon’s technology has the potential to lead to the development of vaccines that aid in both the prevention of initial infection (traditional vaccine); and the treatment of those already infected (therapeutic vaccine).

Prof Frazer’s team already has a proven track record in pioneering cancer vaccines and the work now being undertaken is expected to result in the development of DNA vaccines that have the ability to improve the quality of life of patients across the world.

Coridon was established in 2000 to undertake the commercialisation of outcomes from Prof Frazer’s work.  Allied Medical acquired the rights to a majority shareholding in Coridon in 2008.

Celxcel
Celxcel, a regenerative tissue engineering technology company founded in 2001 that has completed a Phase II human clinical trial for its lead product CardioCel.

CardioCel is a cardiovascular patch used to repair paediatric heart deformities. These deformities range from simple “Hole in the Heart” operations to major vessel outflow tract repairs. The CardioCel patch may also be used to repair leaking heart valves in paediatric patients.

Celxcel uses its patented ADAPT Tissue Engineering Process (TEP) as a platform technology to produce implantable tissue patches for use in various soft tissue repair applications and for the production of replacement tissue heart valves .

The ADAPT technology is used to process animal derived tissues to produce implantable tissue patches that are compatible with the human body. This technology has the potential for medical professionals to use regenerative products instead of synthetic products currently used in soft tissue repair.

Celxcel is evaluating the ADAPT process for use in other surgical applications such as hernia repair, pelvic floor repair, and orthopaedic soft tissue repair.

Allied Healthcare Group Company History

Allied Healthcare Group Ltd was established in June 2011, through the merger of Allied Medical Ltd an unlisted public company and bioMD Ltd an ASX listed company (ASX: BOD).

The merger created a diversified healthcare group with assets in research & development, products in advanced clinical trials ready for commercialisation and a successful sales, marketing and medical device distribution business.

Listed on the ASX in 2004, bioMD acquired and has successfully developed the assets of regenerative tissue engineering company Celxcel. Allied Medical Ltd was originally spun out of Fortescue Metals Group Limited (FMG) and became an independent entity in November 2005.

Allied’s growth strategy has been founded upon leveraging its core competencies in sales, distribution and commercialisation to support its investments in growth areas – sectors identified as having the potential to make a significant and positive contribution in the healthcare sector.

In 2008, Allied identified a partnership to gain entry in the growing vaccine market with a right to acquire a majority shareholding in Coridon Pty Ltd (Coridon), a company founded by Professor Ian Frazer, Australian of the Year 2006. Professor Frazer is well recognised for his ground breaking research that led to Merck & Co.’s highly successful cervical cancer vaccine, Gardasil.

The Coridon partnership fitted well with Allied’s long term strategic goal of creating shareholder value through identifying opportunities and investing in innovative technologies that have global potential with world class research expertise.

In 2010, the Allied expanded its sales and distribution business with the acquisition of Medevco Pty Ltd. Medevco is an Australian-based supplier and distributor of medical devices and has a sales, marketing, logistics and technical service footprint across Australia and New Zealand. Allied Healthcare Group is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the code: AHZ
