Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHL) is a holding company engaged in businesses focusing on tourism, entertainment, leisure and hospitality sectors. AHL was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on the 30th of June 1962. Its average annual revenue reaches approximately $490 million. Its headquarters is located in New South Wales, Australia and to date; around 3,191 people are employed in the company. Amalgamated Holdings Limited operates mainly in eight business segments: Leisure/Attractions, Thredbo Alpine Resort, Hotels, Entertainment Technology, Cinema Exhibition International, Cinema Exhibition Domestic, Strategic Investments and Others.
The leisure/attraction business segment of AHL operates under the brand names Featherdale Wildlife Park, Rydges Hotels & Resorts, BlueRock Catering and State Theatre while the Thredbo Alpine Resort business segment is engaged in operating resorts as well as other property development activities.
Included in the operations of the hotel business segment of Amalgamated Holdings Limited are the ownership, operation as well as the management of different hotels located in Australia and in other countries while AHL's entertainment technology operates under the umbrella of Atlab Group of Companies which is further divided into divisions of Atlab Image & Sound Technology, Atlab Australia, Cinesound Movietone and Filmlab Engineering all of which operate as one for the formation foundation of the motion picture laboratories. This business segment is also engaged in the provision of film production services for the production, processing, grading, duplication, sound transfers & negatives, sound mixing, traditional film optical printing and archival & restoration.
Cinema Exhibition International is the business segment of Amalgamated Holdings Limited that is consist of three cinema brands: Birch Carroll & Coyle, Greater Union, and Cinestar. The films exhibited in UAE, Germany, and the Netherlands and in Australia are produced by this segment. The domestic business segment for the Amalgamated Holdings Limited has the activities that include the operations of the Australian Cinema Exhibition.
The company's strategic investments of the company is engaged in Roadshow Distributors while the company's other segments is engaged in the provision of property rental as well as other investments available for sale.
Amalgamated Holdings Company History
It was in 1911 when Amalgamated Holdings was founded. It was first listed in 1962 on the Australian Stock Exchange. The lease of the Thredbo resort was purchased in 1987 by Amalgamated Holdings Limited.
The company made a deal with a subsidiary of the Rank Group in 2002 to sell 50% shareholding in the Atlab Group of Companies. Greater Union Organisation which is a subsidiary fully owned by Amalgamated Holdings gained Val Morgan advertising in 2002 and traded its stake in Val Morgan in 2004.
The company's Matilda Cruises business was traded in June 2005 by Amalgamated Holdings. The Greater Union Organisation made a deal to buy Gowings Building from Gowing Bros in April 2006.
Mr. John O’Neill was appointed as the Director of the AHL in December 2006.
In was in May 2007 when Amalgamated Holdings gained Rydes Bankstown Property and Rydes managed property located in Cronulla. Ticketing tenancies found at Darling Harbour and Pier 26 Bar were traded in the same month.
