Argo Investments (ARG) is a leading investment company. The Company specializes in investing in Australian listed securities and short-term interest bearing securities. Argo Investments incorporated in 1946 and at present it has a market capitalisation as at 30 June, 2008 of $4.1 billion and it is among top100 companies listed on the ASX. Argo listed on ASX on 31 March, 1963. The Company’s portfolio includes investments in about 180 Australian companies and trusts. During the fiscal 2007, its 10 largest investments were RCY Pty. Limited, JIT Pty. Limited, Bougainville Copper Limited, TRIGT Pty. Limited, Questor Financial Services Limited, McLennan Holdings Pty. Ltd., RBC Dexia Investor Services Australia Nominees Pty. Limited, Donald Cant Pty. Ltd., Kalymna Pty. Ltd. and Jacaranda Pastoral Pty. Ltd.
Argo has a very simple investment policy. The Company aims at providing safe, steady growth, secured by a spread of investments over a broad range of the Australian economy. The company takes on a long-term investment philosophy in selecting stocks in the portfolio. Argo’s goal is to identify well-managed businesses with the potential and ability to produce growing and sustainable profits to fund increasing dividend payments. Keeping that in mind, its strategy is to buy and hold quality investments at a price that offers value. Argo's portfolio also takes advantage of the globalization of the world economy by investing in Australian companies that are taking their businesses to world markets.
Argo Investments History
Argo Investments was established in 1946. Since then, it has increased its investment portfolio through a number of acquisitions. It acquired Schroders Dual Fund Limited in 1990, now known as Clipper Investments Pty Limited and Stoddarts Holdings Limited Group in 1992.
