Austral Africa Resources (AAF) is an emerging mining and metals processing group. Its resources and operations are held in the NT of Australia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa. AAF operates Nova Copper Project - a copper smelter in the Democratic Republic of Congo. AAF has developed process techniques via its South Africa based subsidiary “Smelting Technologies” by chiefly utilising furnace technology to convert various minerals into metals. Austral Africa Resources listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 3rd March, 1994.
Austral Africa Resources owns four granted mineral exploration concessions in the Katanga province in addition to owning the further four concessions through an arrangement with Sino-Asia Mining & Resources plc (SAMR). This has allowed the Company to pursue exploration activities in the Katanga copper belt in the Democratic Republic of Congo. AAF is currently focused on completing the expansion of its Nova Mining Copper Project which is located in Lubumbashi, DR of Congo. AAF’s Nova Project commenced production of blister copper on 5 June 2004. The Company is currently producing more than 300 t of blister grade copper every month from Nova, which is all supplied to European refineries. AAF is expecting 1,000 t per month copper metal production by the end of 2007 from its Nova Project after the completion of the construction of further furnaces at Nova. The Company’s future project is the Copper & Cobalt Smelter Project.
