Australand Property Group (ALZ) is a leading diversified property group in Australia. ALZ's business operations are spread across Sydney, Melbourne, south east Queensland and Perth over a number of different sectors. The Company has a staff of over 700 people. It has a sales office in Hong Kong that provides services to the Asian market. Its principal activities incorporate investment in income producing commercial, industrial and retail properties; development of commercial and industrial property; residential development comprising land, housing and apartment development; property trust management, and property management. ALZ listed on the ASX on 16th of June, 1997. It also listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in 1997. Australand business activities are organized into three divisions: Commercial and Industrial, Investment Trusts and Residential. Its Commercial and Industrial Division provides accommodation solutions for logistics, industrial, hi-tech and commercial office users. Its Residential Division is engaged in the provision of accommodation solutions to a diverse range of markets, designed to address the needs of the markets the Company is serving.
As of fiscal 2008, Australand held 62 income producing properties with a combined worth of around $2.2 billion, with development assets of around $1.7 billion. By September 2008, the Company had a market capitalisation of about $930 million. ALZ’s principal security holder is CapitaLand Limited, a Singapore based property group which holds about 59% of the issued capital. The Company has been providing property development services for more than 80 years and with time it has expanded its business operations to address the requirements of its constantly changing and more sophisticated customer base.
Australand Property Group History
Australand originated from Hooker Corporation which collapsed in the property crash that occurred in the late 1980s. The company listed on the Australin Stock Exchange in 1997 with Singapore-based DBS Land, now known as CapitaLand, as the managing shareholder. In 1999, through the acquisition of Walker Corporation, the Company entered into the commercial, industrial and apartment markets. In 2003, the Australand Property Group was created with the stapling of Australand Property Trust (APT) units to the ordinary shares of ALZ.
