Australian Ethical Investment (AEF) invests in predominantly investments that support society and the environment. Australian Ethical Investment (formerly August Financial Management Ltd) was established in 1986. It originally managed a private ethical trust until 1989 when, what is now the Australian Ethical Balanced Trust, opened for public subscription. It was listed on the ASX on 17 December 2002. AEF is an independent funds manager, specialising in environmental and socially responsible investment. The company tries to improve the ethics of corporate Australia and promote ecologically sustainable and socially just enterprises through judicious investment. It currently manages four public unit trusts.

AEF specialises in environmental and socially responsible investments. All investments are selected against a criteria to assist in: achieving a just and sustainable society; protecting the natural environment; providing a competitive financial return to investors. In addition, AEF's customers include general investors and fund managers. Competitors include other investment companies, funds and trusts.
