Babcock & Brown (BNB) is an international investor and advisor providing services to leading global businesses. Its principal activities incorporate the creation, arrangement and management of asset and cash flow-based investment. The Company receives a large portion of its income through principal investments. It listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on October 6, 2004. BNB carries out its operations through 31 offices spread around the world. Its head office is based in Sydney with other hub offices located in San Francisco, New York, Munich and London. BNB is organised into five principal divisions: real estate segment caters principal investment and investment management related services to the real estate sector; infrastructure segment is engaged in the provision of financial advisory, principal finance and funds management services to the infrastructure and project finance sector; corporate and structured finance division focuses on the creation, structuring and participation in and syndication of equity and debt investments, and operating leasing division is involved in the asset acquirement and syndication, along with managing the portfolios of aircraft, railcars and semi-conductor equipment. In October 2007, BNB completed the acquisition of Bluewater and acquired Coinmach Service Corp., in November 2007. The combined value of the Company’s assets and funds under management was up to A$74 billion as at 30 June 2008.
Babcock & Brown History
Babcock & Brown was established in 1977 with Jim Babcock (executive chairman), as the co-founder of the company. The Company was principally focused on advisory and management of US leveraged leases. Since its inception the Company has grown into a worldwide investment and advisory business. It invests its own capital to take primary positions, or securing assets for syndication and arrangement for third parties. The company has been operating in Sydney since 1984. Babcock & Brown raised $550M during 2004, through an initial public offering. It listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 6th of October 2004.
