Bega Cheese Company History
Bega Cheese was established in 1900 as the Butter Factory. Later in 1944, it changed its name to the Bega Co-operative Society Ltd. The business started its milk production in 1956 followed by the opening of its Canberra branch in 1960 and its Queanbeyan branch in 1975. The business developed its factories, facilities and new varieties of cheese products over the years. In 2001, Bonland Dairies transferred its cheese cutting and packaging operations to Bega Cheese, increasing its production to 40,000 metric tonnes per annum and updating its packaging to rejuvenate the brand. In 2005, Bega Cheese launched “The Magic of Bega” advertising campaign.
