Brickworks (BKW) specialises in investment, property realisation as well as manufacturing of building products. The Company is a market leader in the Australian building products industry with also strong presence in New Zealand, Hong Kong and Dubai. Its key national brands include Austral bricks and Bristile Roofing. Brickworks listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 30th June, 1962. The Company is organised in to three segments: building products, property and investment. The building products segment is focused on the manufacturing of vitrified clay, concrete and timber products for use in the building industry. Its product range consists of bricks, blocks, pavers, roof tiles, floor tiles, and timber products. The property segment seeks for opportunities that can help in the better utilisation of land owned by the Brickworks Group. The investment division invests in the Australian share market in order to derive dividend income as well as capital growth. It also has investments in Washington H Soul Pattinson and Co. Ltd and Brickworks Investment Company Ltd. The Company holds a 42.85% stake in Washington H Soul Pattinson. The Company acquired a leading position in Australian brick manufacturing market through the acquisition of Bristile, based in WA in 2003.
Brickworks History
BKW was established in NSW in 1934 with a focus on acquiring various existing Sydney brickworks. It floated on the ASX in 1962. In 1945 Brickworks acquired a controlling interest in Austral Bricks with the remaining interest acquired by the Company in 1950. The Company's capital was reconstructed in 1988. The Company made a share-swap agreement with Washington H. Soul Pattinson, an investment group, in 1969. In October 2003, Brickworks completed the 100% acquisition Bristile Ltd based in Western Australia.
