Caltex Australia Limited (CTX) is a company engaged in the refining, purchase, marketing and distribution of petroleum products as well as the operation of many convenience stores in Australia. It also offers a variety of solutions such as price risk management, fluid management, environmental health and safety programs as well as fleet management. CTX was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on the 31st of December 1980. Its average annual revenue reaches approximately AUD$18 million. Its headquarters is located in Sydney Australia and to date; around 3,000 people are employed in the company. Caltex Australia operates mainly through its five operating subsidiaries: Caltex Refineries in New South Wales, Caltex Australia Petroleum, Caltex Lubricating Oil Refinery, Caltex Refineries in Queensland and Caltex Petroleum Distributors. Vitalgas is also a part of its subsidiaries where Caltex Australia has made a 50:50 joint venture with Origin Energy. CTX is in the energy sector, energy industry group and more specifically the company is in the "Oil, Gas & Consumable Fuels" industry. The company has approximately 30% market share. US based ChevronTexaco refining joint venture owns 50% of Caltex Australia.
CTX has two refineries located in Queensland and NSW. There is a nationwide network of service stations is branded as Caltex or Ampol. Included in the ownership and operation of Caltex Australia are the Lytton Refinery in South Brisbane and the Kurnell refineries in New South Wales. With 35 million liters combined capacity in a day, Caltex is now considered as the largest crude oil refiner in Australia.
CTX also owns and operates three joint venture lubricant blending plants as well as 11 seaboard storage terminals in Australia. The joint venture the company had for its lubricant blending plants are arranged in place with Shell at Queensland, Fremantle and Townsville in Western Australia; Mobil at Gladstone in Queensland and Silverwater in New South Wales.
Also a part of the company's ownership and operation is the pipeline that is stretching over 200 kilometres from the Kurnell Refinery located in Sydney going to the Wickham Terminal located in Newcastle. This pipeline carries a variety of fuel products like diesel, jet fuel and petrol. The company also has a fleet of road tankers and is bound by a long term contract with transport companies to transport refined products from the terminals to distribution depots, service stations and commercial end users through cartage.
Caltex Australia Company History
Caltex Australia was established in 1941. It finally built its cleanser in Kurnell, Sydney in 1955. The company increased its share to about 25% after obtaining Golden Fleece Company. Australian Petroleum was created in 1995 when Ampol and Caltex merged. Australian Petroleum was under the ownership of Pioneer International and Caltex but was fully owned by Caltex after two years
The network of supermarkets located at service stations was opened in 1999. Travelmate, the company’s internet site was opened in 2000 to track Australia road travel.
Branded petrol station was established by leading retailer Caltex and Woolworths in 2003. In 2004, a contract for co-branded service station was entirely done. The Lytton cleanser fuels project was established in built in the same year.
Petro Fuel and Lubricants in Toowoomba was acquired in 2005. Petro Fuel and Lubricants is a branded fuel reseller by Caltex. Des King became the Company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director in March 2006. Macquarie Office Trust had an agreement with Caltex to rent the new head office at 2 Market Street. The first diesel fuel magnified with 2% biodiesel was opened by the Caltex in Australia.
An Ethanol plant is planned to be built at Dalby in Queensland’s Darling Downs. Caltex signed agreement to Dalby Bio-Refinery (DBRL) in order for the latter to supply ethanol to the ethanol plant in March 2007.
