Ceramic Fuel Cells (CFU) is recognised globally for its specialisation in the research and development of ceramic fuel cell systems using solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and stack technology. The company has been able to manufacture an economically viable fuel system for distribution to appliance manufacturers all over the world. CFU testing services, expertise in powders, seals and materials handling are world-class and may provide additional business opportunities.

The Company operates in two geographical areas: Australia and Europe. In Australia, its areas of operation are principally solid oxide (ceramic) fuel cell research, product development and pilot manufacturing. In Europe, the areas of operation include the operation of a zirconia powder manufacturing plant, the construction of a fuel cell plant, sales, marketing and business development. Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited’s products include powder and ceramic production, high temperature metal and ceramic materials, advanced heat exchanger design and fully integrated fuel cell testing systems. Its subsidiaries include Ceramic Fuel Cells (Europe) Limited, Ceramic Fuel Cells (Powder) Limited and Ceramic Fuel Cells GmbH. In September 2009, the Company disposed of all of its securities.

Ceramic Fuel Cells (CFU)'s SOFC technology provides a reliable, energy-efficient, high-quality, low-emission electricity from natural gas, LPG, methane and other alternative and renewable fuels. In 2005-06, CFU is likely to release its first prototype, the micro-CHP (a fuel cell generator integrated with a domestic hot water service producing electrical power and heat), into field trials. The company's major competitors are domestic and international manufacturers of fuel cell systems. Major customers include appliance manufacturing industry. There is a high customer interest in the micro-CHP technology in Europe, Asia and North America.

Ceramic Fuel Cells History

Ceramic Fuel Cells (CFU) was established in 1992 as a research consortium and became publicly listed on the ASX in July 2004. The company initially focused on an existing and growing micro-CHP market in Europe. In August 2004, CFU established a UK subsidiary, Ceramic Fuel Cells Europe Ltd, to focus mainly on European prospects. In November 2004, CFU signed contract for the first commercial trial of the CHP unit.
