Further Reading
Charter Hall Office REIT (CQO) has significant interests in prime A- and B-grade office properties across Australia, the US, Europe and most recently Asia (Japan), with the bulk of its income derived from government and investment-grade tenants. CQO has appointed Principal Real Estate Investors in the US to oversee its strategic and operational requirements. Investors can trade Charter Hall Office REIT shares on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
CQO was established and listed on the Australian stock market as the Property Income Investment Trust in 1993, founded largely as a group of office buildings leased by the Australian Taxation Office in suburban and regional locations. The trust has subsequently repositioned itself, targeting better quality assets in higher-growth markets. CQO was listed on the Australian stock market in 9 December, 1993.
Charter Hall Office has a well-diversified portfolio of quality assets in Australia, the US, Europe and Asia. Many of CQO's Australian assets have long-term leases with Australian government bodies, which have a very low rental risk. Management is able to draw on Macquarie's substantial global presence and investment banking expertise.
Major customers of office trusts are office tenants along with smaller retail tenants (generally ground-floor level) and car park operators. Major office tenants include banks, insurance companies, law firms, accountants and government departments. Competitors include owners of other office properties or business parks.
