Choiseul Investments (CHO) is an investment company that makes investments in a diverse range of Australian shares, unit trusts and interest bearing securities. CHO listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 28th July, 1971. As of June 30, 2008, Choiseul held investments in excess of 70 companies and trusts, predominately in the financial and industrial sectors. The Company’s investments are diversified across a range of sectors, such as banks, diversified financials, materials, insurance, industrial, consumer staples, real estate, and consumer discretionary. The Company's top 10 investments, as of June 30, 2008, consisted of Washington H Soul Pattinson & Company Limited, QBE Insurance Limited, National Australia Bank Limited, Milton Corporation Limited, BHP Billiton Limited, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, St George Bank Limited, Wesfarmers Limited, Brickworks Limited and Bendigo & Adelaide Bank Limited. During fiscal year ended June 30, 2008, the market capitalisation of Choiseul Investments was $421 million. Milton Corporation Limited is responsible for managing the portfolio of CHO. Choiseul seeks to make long-term investment in well managed companies and trusts with profitable history record and that can offer increased dividends. The shareholders’ distributions are based on dividend income and Choiseul reinvests the earned capital profits in order to maximise the value for shareholders.
Choiseul Investments History
The Company was created in 1911 to acquire copra plantations on the islands around Papua & New Guinea, with Burns Philp managing the plantations. The Company set aside the surplus funds to establish an investment portfolio and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 28 July 1971. In 1987, the Company sold its plantations and used the income to make further investments.
