Coal & Allied Industries History
Coal & Allied Industries was established in 1960 as a result of the merger of three coal companies, one of which dated back to 1844. In 1977 Rio Tinto started acquiring an interest and by 1991 it gained 70% of the share in Company. The company made two large acquisitions in late 2000 and early in 2001, the Lemington mine in the Hunter Valley and Peabody’s Australian coal assets. In 2004, Rio Tinto announced to take over the management of CNA. Now Rio Tinto Coal Australia manages Coal & Allied Industries.
