Consolidated Media Holding History
On 30 November 2007, Consolidated Media Holding (CMJ) was created as a result of the demerger of PBL into two businesses, a gaming business (Crown) and a media business (CMH). Before this, PBL had been the Australia's largest diversified media and entertainment groups. It was among the top 25 companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation of more than $11 billion. The group was primarily focused on the investments in gaming and entertainment, with strategic investments in television production and broadcasting; magazine publishing and distribution; and key digital media and entertainment businesses.
PBL was the owner of two of Australia’s leading gaming and entertainment complexes, Crown Melbourne and Burswood in Perth. In 1994 Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd was founded and Nine Network Australia and Australian Consolidated Press were merged the same year. The combined businesses were renamed as Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd. In 1999, PBL merged with Crown Ltd and acquired Burswood Ltd in 2004. It purchased Burswood International Resort Casino in 2004 and signed a joint venture with a major Hong Kong listed company, Melco International Development, to pursue new gaming ventures in Asia. In May 2007, PBL announced its decision of demerger into two separate entities - a gaming business (Crown) and a media business (CMH). This demerger took effect on Friday 30 November 2007 following the shareholder approval.
