Electrometals Technologies (EMM) is involved in the research and development of the company's proprietary electrowinning technology, market development and project investigation, operation of pilot plants and production and sale of the patented EMEW plant and equipment. EMM was first listed on the ASX in March 1989. During 2004, four new EMEW plants were supplied to clients in Chile, South Africa, Indonesia and Taiwan.

More than 95% of EMM's customers are outside of Australia, with sales in North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, India and Africa, with some in the Far East in Asia. Its subsidiaries include Electrometals Canada Inc., Materials Research Pty Ltd and Mallonbury Pty Ltd. On February 19, 2008, the Company acquired a 51% interest in Kurion Technologies Limited.

The EMEW technology is based on traditional electrowinning, that is, electrochemical recovery of metals from their dissolved state. It is more efficient than traditional methods and can recover gold, silver, platinum, cadmium, cobalt, copper, nickel, tin, zinc, lead, manganese and a variety of other metals.

EMM is involved in a development joint venture with Smorgan Steel and a business alliance with DeNora Group of Italy. Electrometals Technologies's technology is marketed to various mining and industrial companies. EMM competes with manufacturers and operators of conventional electrowinning technology.
