Equinox Minerals (EQN) is an international mineral exploration and development company principally focused on base and precious metals. Equinox has operations in Zambia and interests in Australia and Peru. Its major asset is Lumwana Copper Project (Lumwana), situated in the North Western Province of Zambia. Equinox has a dual listing on the Canadian (Toronto) and Australian stock exchanges. EQN listed on the ASX on 21 June, 2004. Lumwana has a potential for proven and probable reserves that amounted 321 million tonnes of ore grading at 0.73% copper, which is one of the largest fully permitted copper projects across the globe currently under production and the largest new mining project seen in Zambia in 40 years. This Project is likely to process 20 million tonnes per year of ore to produce copper concentrates having an average of 172,000 tpa of copper metal (or 380 million lbs of copper per year) in the first six years and average production of 156,000 tpa of copper metal (340 million lbs/year) over the estimated 37 year mine life. Lumwana mine production is planned to start in December 2008.
Equinox (EQN) mined a further 28 reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) holes totalling 4,916 meters on the Kanga prospect by December 31, 2007. It accomplished an RCP and diamond drilling program during fiscal 2007 on the Kababisa prospect. EQN also completed a copper mineralization and RCP and diamond drill program on the Ndola West prospect. The Company completed 2,787 meters in 29 RCP holes, 12 of which intersected uranium mineralisation between 1 meter and 4 meters (downhole) thicknesses over several kilometers of strike at Lolwa on the Kapompo project.
Equinox Minerals History
Equinox Minerals was created on 19 January 2004 with an aim of becoming the Canadian holding company and to continue the business of Equinox Resources. A merger of Equinox and Equinox Resources was carried out with the company officially listed on ASX on 21 June 2004. Equinox has also a listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
