GBST Holdings (GBT) provides specialist market access and transaction processing technology solutions for the global financial services industry. GBT processes around $40B of ASX trades per month, and processes and settles the daily trading volumes for more than 50% of Australian stockbrokers and investment banks. GBT has offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Hong Kong.
The Company operates in four segments: GBST Australia Broker Services, GBST Global Broker Services, GBST Wealth Management and GBST Financial Services. On October 1, 2008, the Company acquired Emu Design (Qld) Pty Ltd. On December 9, 2008, the Company acquired Coexis Limited.
GBT's differentiating factor is its 140-strong team of employees, which comprises a diverse set of skills and experience (e-commerce architects, engineers, programmers, business analysts and product managers). The team has enabled GBT to deliver a number of market-firsts, including automated clearing and settlement, third party clearing, agency clearing, real time margin lending and cash management processing and cross-border trading and settlement.
GBT's main competitors include other national and global providers of financial transaction processing solutions. Its core customers comprise stockbrokers, global investment banks, clearers, custodians, lenders, cash management providers and stock exchanges. These include Wilson HTM (stockbroking business), ITG (Listed broker-dealer on the NYSE), Berndale Securities (wholly owned subsidiary of Merryl Lynch) and the Adelaide Bank.
GBST Holdings History
GBST was established as a privately owned company in 1983. Then known as Star Systems, it was mainly a systems integration house. In 1993 GBT changed the face of the financial industry when it released GBST Shares™, the first system fully integrated with CHESS, the ASX’s electronic settlement system. In 2005 GBST listed on the ASX, and its head office is located in Brisbane.
