Gowing Bros (GOW) operates across investment and wealth management industry. GOW is a long term investor with a focus on property operations. Gowing Bros listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 31st July, 1962. GOW has six operating divisions: cash and fixed interest, listed equities, private equities, investment properties, development properties and other. Gowing Bros seeks to take advantage of changing economic cycles by spreading investments over a range of asset classes which allows the Company to produce higher and smooth returns. The Company makes investments in listed Australian shares and global equities, private equity, property, fixed interest and cash. GOW seeks to invest in well managed companies that offer increasing returns as well as potential for long-term capital growth. These investment companies are selected on the basis of strong management team, business model, competitive advantage and transparent reporting. The Company invests on risk return basis and seeks for higher returns for more risky assets. GOW rarely sell its stocks which assists it in maximising returns through compounding returns, reducing tax and transaction fees. Gowing Bros focuses on its core values of patience, discipline, understanding, conviction, decisiveness and integrity, with an objective to maximise and protect shareholder value over the long term.
Gowing Bros History
Gowings was founded by John Ellis Gowing in 1868 originally as a retailing business, with its first store opened at 318 George St Sydney. The Company soon entered into property investments operations across Sydney's CBD. During 1920s GOW completed the purchase of a range of property investments and started an investment portfolio in 1953. It made its debut on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1962 and it is one of the oldest family retailing businesses in Sydney. The Company’s investment and retailing operations were separated in 2001. Gowings is one of the founding investors in Woolworths and it generates wealth for its shareholders primarily through listed equities.
