Healthscope (HSP) is one of the major healthcare services provider in Australia. The Company owns and operates a portfolio of around 45 medical/surgical, rehabilitation and psychiatric hospitals. Healthscope is also engaged in the provision of pathology services across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Healthscope listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on May 4, 1994. In December 2004, Healthscope acquired Gribbles, which helped it in achieving a significant position in the pathology industry. HSP aims to become a market leader in pathology sector, and through the acquisition of SYB's diagnostic assets, the Company has also added radiology capabilities to its portfolio of operations. In June 2007, Healthscope completed the acquisition of Skin Alert Skin Cancer Clinics. In November 2007, the Company acquired the business operations of NMIG Medical. It completed the acquisition of New Zealand Diagnostic Group, in December 2007.

Healthscope History

Healthscope commenced its activities in 1985 with the acquisition of a psychiatric hospital, the Melbourne Clinic. The Company had been actively involved in the acquisition of hospitals in Victoria, Tasmania, Northern Territory and South Australia during the late 80s and early 90s. HSP floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1994, with a public offer of $70M. Following the Affinity transaction, the Company now operates a portfolio of 46 hospitals and 4,200 beds. In December 2004, Healthscope acquired the business operations of Gribbles, a leading pathology services provider.
