Hills Industries (HIL) is a diversified company principally engaged in the manufacture and wholesale of metal home and hardware and electronic products. HIL listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 30th June, 1962. To date, the Company has more than 2,000 people employed. The company offers a range of products comprising outdoor drying products, such as laundry aids, ladders, scaffolding and fall arrest systems, children's play equipment, such as wheelbarrows, garden sprayers, security doors, steel tubing, television antennas, MATV and CCTV systems such as amplifiers, alarms, commercial audio systems, control and automation systems, rainwater tanks and vehicle protection systems. The company is organized in to three business segments, Electronic Security and Entertainment; Home, Hardware and Eco, and Building and Industrial Products. The Electronic Security and Entertainment division includes Hills Electronic Security, Hills Antenna & TV Systems, Hills Sound, Vision and Lighting, Access Television Services and Opticomm. The Home, Hardware and Eco division is actively involved in its consumer products operations across Australia and New Zealand together with the Hills Healthcare rehabilitation and mobility business, Hills Eco and Woodroffe Australia. The Company’s Building and Industrial Products Division is comprised of four business entities, fielders, Orrcon Steel and Tube, Korvest, and Woodroffe Equipment Australia. Some of the key acquisitions of the Company include Audio Telex Communications, Crestron Control Solutions, BSM, Alquip and Australian Audio Supplies business.
Hills Industries History
Hills Industries (HIL) was created in 1946, with a focus to manufacture the clothes hoist. Soon afterward the company expanded its operations to include other laundry products. In 1959, the company commenced the delivery of television repair and antenna services. HIL then entered into the radio electronics manufacturing business. The Company became floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1962. The Company has made several acquisitions in order to diversify its portfolio of products, with a principal focus on businesses concerning metal fabrication like Korvest Ltd, a manufacturer of metal products. In April, 2005 Hills acquired a 75% shareholding in Team Poly, a plastic rotational moulding business. In June 2005, it acquired the business operations of Audio Telex Communications and Crestron Control Solutions. The Company completed the acquisition of BSM, a major rollformer in Queensland, in December 2005. In January 2006, the Company acquired the Alquip, a Toowoomba based business principally focused on the aluminium scaffold industry. In April 2006, Hill acquired Australian Audio Supplies, an outstanding distributor of Mackie and Tapco audio products in Australian.
