Intrepid Mines (IAU) was formed following the merger of gold explorer, Nustar Limited and Canadian gold and silver miner, Intrepid Minerals Corporation. The company is dual-listed on the Australian and Toronto Stock Exchange. The company's key projects include the Paulsens Project in Western Australia and the Casposo project in Argentina.
The Company operates through four segments: Paulsens, Tujuh Bukit, Casposo and Other. Paulsens is an underground mine extracting ore from two mineralized zones, designated the Upper Zone and the Lower Zone respectively. Tujuh Bukit funds exploration activity under a Joint Venture Alliance agreement in respect of the Tujuh Bukit gold-silver-copper project in eastern Java (Indonesia).
The Company’s other activities includes exploration on the Taviche property in Mexico and regional exploration in Australia near Paulsens. On March 25, 2009, the Company announced the sale of its Casposo project in Argentina. Casposo was engaged in the exploration and evaluation of the Kamila gold/silver project, along with regional exploration programs focused in the San Juan province of Argentina.
Intrepid Mines is developing the Paulsens Gold Project as a 250,000 tonne per annum high grade underground mine that will produce an average of 80,000 ounces of gold per annum. Site infrastructure has been established and underground development is well underway.
IAU's major customers would include the retail, wholesale and international markets. Its competitors consist of other mining companies such as Mawson West Limited (MWE). The mining industry is a global industry, which is highly competitive.
