Macmahon Holdings (MAH) is a leading civil construction and contract mining company, specialising in surface and underground mining, civil engineering, quarrying and processing, and equipment hiring. The Company operates through mining and construction business divisions and it floated on the Australian Stock Exchange on December 1, 1983. The Company’s operations are mainly held in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia. The mining contracts of MAH consist of the Mt Whaleback iron ore project and the Ellendale diamond project. To date the Group employs over 3,000 people. MAH offers a wide experience in the areas of surface and underground mining as well as in major construction projects, and it is engaged in providing services to both public and private sector clientele. MAH holds a $28M investment in Freightlink, the operator of the Alice Springs to Darwin railway. Macmahon aims at providing the highest standards of occupational health together with safety and community performance.
Macmahon Holdings History
MAH was established by Brian Macmahon in 1963, with a focus on civil engineering. In 1967 it won its first mining contract. The Company diversified into contract mining in 1970 and listed on the ASX in 1983. In 1978 the Company constructed a railway from Alice Springs to Tarcoola. Later it acquired FK Kanny & Sons, a specialist gold mining contractor. The Company completed the acquisition of National Mine Management in 1994. The Company began operations in Malaysia in 1994 and began construction operations on the North Dandalup Dam in Western Australia. The Company received three prestigious awards for this project including the inaugural National Award for Partnering from the Master Builders Australia (MBA). In 1996, the Company formed Australian Mine Management. MAH’s Alice Springs to Darwin railway joint venture was accomplished in 2003. In 2004, MAH completed the acquisition of machinery maintenance company Allplant. Its Alice Springs to Darwin railway project received the prestigious Australian Construction Achievement Award for 2004. In November 2006, the Company ceased to provide labour hire services as a result of the sale of its plant hire business.
