The company’s headquarters is located in Sidney, Australia and to date; around 5,700 people are employed in the company. Macquarie Bank Limited operates mainly in six business segments: Equity Markets Group, Banking and Property Group, Financial Services Group, Investment Banking Group and Treasury, Funds Management Group, and Commodities Group.

The Macquarie Bank Equity Markets Group undertakes the market making of the bank, structuring, equity trading, warrants, product origination and derivatives sales and distribution activities in its active operations in Europe, Brazil, South Korea, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.

The Banking and Property Group segment of Macquarie Bank (MBL) provides services for commodity and futures trading, debt market trading, foreign exchange, and even property-related services like banking services for professionals and businesses, property funds management and a lot more.

The Financial Services Group of Macquarie Bank of the company is involved in the financial services distribution primarily through the financial advisors of the group. This segment offers services such as strategic planning, executive wealth management, online stock broking, private portfolio management, mortgages, private banking, retail, treasury and commodities service, managed funds, margin lending and full services on investment planning.

Investment Banking Group and Treasury segment of MBL has combined the wholesale structuring, advisory bank’s stock broking and underwriting capabilities of the company. Moreover, the Funds Management Group handles funds across asset classes for individuals, businesses and corporations.

The Funds Management Group segment of Macquarie Bank is in charge of the management of various funds across a variety of asset classes for individuals, businesses and corporations.

Like the Banking and Property Group, the Commodities Group of Macquarie Bank offers services for futures and commodity trading, debt market trading, foreign exchange, commodity finance services as well as services for origination facilities. Strategic financial advisory, risk management, and economic research services may also be acquired through this segment.

Macquarie Bank Limited (MBL) History

Hill Samuel Australia (HSA), the first name of Macquarie Bank Limited, was established in 1969. Having been involved in the merchant banking activities, the company submitted its interest proposal to become a trading bank in 1981 and this proposal was permitted in 1985. The company started doing some trading activities and became the second biggest private trading bank in Australia. Subsequently that year, HSA transformed its former name to Macquarie Bank Limited. The company was listed and included on the Australian Stock exchange after going public in 1996. The company acquired BTIB or Bankers Trust Investment Bank which is located at Australia in 1999.

MBL turned the US-based Aquila Group into its ally in 2001. This was done to produce weather derivative products in Australia. In 2002, the company got hold of the third biggest private health insurance supplier in Australia, the AXA Health and also acquired the Australian installment warrants business of Merrill Lynch. The company had an agreement to provide mortgage pre-settlement and title listing services in Shanghai with the China Construction Bank.

In December 2004, Macquarie Renewable Energy which is designed to own and control renewable energy assets from UK was formed after the merging of Macquarie Bank and the Novera Energy.
