Fortescue Metals (FMG) was the best performing company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) this week (Winner of the Week for week 50 of 2006). The company closed the week at $12.80 moving almost 20 percent on the week's close.
Rural Press (RUP) was the best performing company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) this week (Winner of the week for week 49 of 2006). The Rural Press share price closed the week 14 percent higher after Fairfax (FXJ) announced its friendly takeover of Rural Press, creating one of the largest digital and print businesses in Australia worth about $9 billion.
AWB was the worst performing company listed in the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) this week (Loser of the week for week 49 of 2006). The AWB share price closed 8 percent lower this week after the Australian Federal government removed its wheat export monopoly. AWB has been in the news lately largely due to the scandal related to the kickbacks and the oil for food program. The changes to legislation are contained in the Wheat Marketing Amendment Bill 2006.
Kimberley Diamonds (KIM) was the worst performing company of the week (Week 48 of 2006) in the Australian sharemarket (Loser of the week). The KIM company share price lost 9 percent over the week after their AGM and news of cost overruns.
Sally Malay (SMY) was the best performing company of the week (Week 48 of 2006) on the Australian sharemarket (Winner of the week). The SMY share price closed the week 20 percent higher after a good AGM. Sally Malay Mining is a nickel sulphide producer from Western Australia.
Keycorp (KYC) was the worst performing company of the week (Week 47 of 2006) on the Australian sharemarket. (Loser of the week) The company share price fell 15 percent on the week after their AGM.
