OceanaGold Corporation (OGC) is a mineral exploration and development Company primarily searching for gold. The Company operates two open cut mines at Macraes and Reefton in New Zealand. The development of its new Frasers underground mine is near to completion. OGC listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 19 June, 2007. It also listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange on 19 June 2007. The Company’s project portfolio is comprised of Macraes Gold Project, Reefton Gold Project and Didipio Gold Copper Project. Its Macraes Project is situated 100 kilometers north of Dunedin in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. The Company’s Reefton Project is situated some 7 kilometers southeast of the township of Reefton, within the West Coast region of South Island of New Zealand. The Company’s Didipio Gold Copper Project is situated around 270 kilometers north of Manila in the Philippines. On June 25, 2007, OGC completed the takeover of Oceana Gold Ltd (Oceana). The Company formed a merger with Climax Mining in 2006. Through this merger the Company acquired a rich portfolio of gold and copper assets in the Philippines. OceanaGold’s second mine Reefton was commissioned in 2007. In 2007, the Company made its debut on the Toronto Stock Exchange. OGC commissioned its third mine - Frasers Underground in early 2008. The expected gold production of the Company in 2009 ranges from 280,000 to 300,000 ounces of gold at cash costs of less than US$475 per ounce.
OceanaGold Corporation History
The Company was incorporated on 24 December 2003 as Oceana Gold Limited. OGC was evolved from the gold assets of GRD Limited, an engineering and development firm. At the time of establishment OceanaGold had an extensive portfolio of operating, development and exploration assets in the South Island of New Zealand. On 18 Feb 2005, the Company concluded a Negotiated Greenhouse Agreement with the New Zealand Government. GRD Limited sold its majority share in OceanaGold on 18 May 2006. The Company formed a merger with Climax Mining on 11 Jul 2006. The Company announced the dry commissioning of its Reefton Gold Project on 2 January 2007. The Company was incorporated in Canada as OceanaGold Corporation on 22 March 2007 and listed on the ASX and NZX on 19 June 2007. It floated on the TSX on 26 June 2007. OceanaGold successfully commissioned its Frasers Underground Mine in New Zealand on 17 January 2008.
