Pacifica Group History
Pacifica floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1989, under the name Pacific BBA, with a focus on manufacturing brake and clutch systems and components, industrial plastics and textiles. During 1990’s, the company operated as a diversified manufacturer of specialised construction products for use in different activities. Pacifica continued to make progress through acquisitions and geographically expanding its operations across Australia, Asia, North America and the UK. At the time of listing, BBA Plc, the UK-based friction materials company, owned circa 58% of the ordinary shares. Later BBA moved its focus to Northern Hemisphere and sold all of its equity held in the Australian business. In 2001, Pacifica decided to focus on only those areas in which it held strong competitive advantage and announced its intention to convert from a diversified industrial into an automotive technology company.
