Prime Infrastructure Group (PIH) is a specialist infrastructure operator which owns and manages a portfolio of high quality infrastructure assets. Company invest in businesses across two operating platforms based on their underlying economic drivers – utilities and fee for service. Their portfolio of infrastructure assets is primarily in the energy and transport sectors located in Australasia, North America and Europe. Investors can trade Prime Infrastructure Group shares on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
PIH was incorporated on 29 April 2002, with a founding investment in the DBCT. It was listed on the Australian stock market on 24 June 2002. In 2003, the company expanded its portfolio with investments in the electricity generation assets of Ecogen Power, operator of two power plants in Victoria and the Redbank Power Station in NSW. PIH has since divested its generation assets to focus on ports and electricity transmission and distribution.
Prime Infrastructure Group's long-life, long concession, monopolistic underlying assets produce strong and stable cashflows, secured by regulated tariff regimes or contracted revenues. Further, DBCT has 'take or pay' contracts, covering more than 90% of capacity. PIH's stapled structure means that income distributions are made on a tax-deferred basis. A number of PIH's assets are monopolistic in nature. It's key customers are the energy companies that transport gas and power throught its distribution lines and the users of its port businesses in Europe. DBCT currently loads coal for 11 mines in the Bowen basin.
Prime Infrastructure recognises the climate change related impacts of its asset activities. Prime Infrastructure has focused on measuring the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the activities from its continuing operations. Prime Infrastructure has participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The CDP is an independent not-for-profit organisation aiming to create a lasting relationship between shareholders and corporations regarding the implications for shareholder value and commercial operations presented by climate change.
