Prime Media Group (PRT) is a media company operating in Australasia. PRT operates commercial television and radio stations; provides film exhibition and distribution services through the Dendy and Moonlight Cinema brands; and engages in outside broadcast production and television program productions. PRT listed on the ASX on August 30, 1984.
The company’s broadcasting service in regional NSW and Victoria is branded as PRIME and in WA as GWN (Golden West Network). Seven Network is a major supplier of programming on PRIME through an affiliation arrangement with the PRT, until 2016. PRIME diversified into Radio industry in September 2005, by acquiring six radio stations in North Queensland. In January 2007, PRIME acquired Easymix format stations in Cairns (4EL AM) and Mackay (4AA AM). PRIME purchased two FM stations, Zinc 96.1FM and HOT 91FM in the Sunshine Coast region of South East Queensland in August 2007. PRIME also made several strategic investments in non-traditional media sectors during 2006/07. PRT expanded into the Australasian and South East Asian markets through acquisition of a controlling interest in Becker Group Limited in June 2007. PRIME launched "PRIME Digitalworks" during 2007 to avail opportunities in the emerging online media sector. During fiscal 2008, the Company completed the acquisition of AMI Radio Pty Limited and subsidiary, Hot 91 Pty Limited, Prime Media Group Services Pty Limited and Prime Media Singapore Pte Ltd. On April 30, 2008, PRT disposed its Dendy Film Distribution and Exhibition businesses.
PRT has now become a leading regional broadcaster in Australia, through investments in regional communities, high quality programming and a focus on cost efficiency and technology. PRT derives its revenue from advertising and the production of commercial advertisements.
Prime Media Group History
The Company was established in Australia as a result of Australian Government legislation (beginning in 1998) to provide all Australians with equal access to “free to air” television. The Company floated on Australian Stock Exchange in August 1984 and it changed its name to Prime Media Group in December 2007.
