Redflow (RFX) is an energy storage technology business. Since 2005, it has grown its technology to a commercial use stage and is now in trial use with power utilities in Australia and New Zealand. Its zinc-bromine flow battery module (ZBM) is the core enabling technology in RedFlow's energy storage products. RedFlow packages its ZBMs into a suite of sophisticated products these give RedFlow's customers the choice to use electricity when they need it.
RedFlow develops and sells advanced energy storage systems into the rapidly growing electricity utility and renewable energy markets. Today the world's electricity generation and distribution systems are passing through a period of rapid fundamental change, driven by worldwide concerns about climate change and dramatic growth in electricity demand.
Electricity demand is also becoming 'peakier' as a result of customers increasingly rapid uptake of electric appliances such as air conditioners. This is being offset by a welcome and growing use of renewable generation sources such as Solar PV, however these are intermittent sources of energy that are not available all the time.
A key part of the solution to these expensive issues lies in the cost effective storage of electrical energy - that means batteries that have the capacity to store tens to hundreds of kilowatt-hours of power (enough to run a household or small community for several hours).
RedFlow has the products and solutions to fill this market need. RedFlow is a specialist developer and manufacturer of next generation electricity storage systems. They are a clean energy company based around their world leading and patented zinc bromine battery technology.
Ergon Energy, the major regional electricity distribution utility in Queensland, is currently deploying thirty of their "plug and play" energy storage systems to reduce peak demand on stressed assets in their SWER and rural electricity networks. These systems include fully integrated remote monitoring and control to maximise their value to the utility.
Ther zinc bromine battery, with the benefit of larger scale manufacturing:
- Performs better, is lighter and lasts longer
- Will be lower cost than conventional battery alternatives.
As electricity utilities and consumers increasingly switch to the "smart grid" in coming years, they see zinc bromine batteries as an integral part of this large growth market.
