The Reject Shop (TRS) is a discount variety retailer operating in Australia. The Company is principally focused on the retailing of discount variety merchandise. The Company offers an extensive range of products that are used in daily life like household cleaning products, cosmetics, basic furniture and kitchenware. TRS listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 1st June, 2004. The Company employs over 2,500 staff. TRS is the operator of 156 stores, located in shopping centres, standalone locations, key regional centres and small country towns in Australia. During 2007, the Company’s sales were more than $280 million. The Company’s annual clients are in excess of 28 million and its annual suppliers are over 400. TRS is experiencing rapid progress and it is one of the most profitable discount variety retailers throughout Australia. The Company’s future growth plans include sales generation of more than $340 million in 2008; opening of around 20 new store per year; and employing minimal 400 new team members per annum. The Company carefully selects its store locations in order to provide convenient shopping to its clients. The Company targets value-conscious customers seeking for low price points, convenient shopping sites along with bargaining opportunity. TRS is committed to expand both through organic growth and by expanding its business operations through a consistent program of opening new stores.
The Reject Shop History
The Reject Shop was established by Ron Hall and John Shuster in 1981, with its first store launched in South Yarra, Victoria. In 1985, the Company stopped selling factory seconds and entered into the discount variety retailing. In 1981, it started to directly import merchandise from outside Australia. In 1990, it launched its first 'Everything Here $2' store and entered into the NSW market by opening its first store at Pagewood. It launched its first store in South Australia at Elizabeth in 1992. In 1993, it was selected as Dunn and Bradstreet Victorian Business of the Year award. The Company launched its 100th store in 2004. It made its debut on the ASX in 2004 at $2 per share. It opened its first Queensland store in Pacific Fair in 2005. It opened its first store in WA in Booragoon in 2006 and closed its last ‘Everything Here $2’ store. It opened National Distribution Centre at Melbourne Airport in 2006. It entered the ASX Top 300 list in 2007.
