SPDR S&P/ ASX 50 Fund (SFY) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF). The fund invests in a diversified portfolio of 50 leading Australian securities by market capitalisation in order to replicate the income of the S&P/ASX 50 Index. SPDR S&P/ ASX 50 Fund commenced operations in 2001. It listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 27 August, 2001. SPDR S&P/ ASX 50 Fund is managed by State Street Global Advisors, Australia Services Limited (SSgA), which is the responsible entity for the fund. Retail investors are only allowed to trade units on the ASX, while stockbrokers that are acting as principal have exposure to open PDS, which allows the units to be applied for and traded in off-market, by trading shares in lots of 100,000. The Fund’s market price will always be near to its NAV due to market makers in addition to the Company’s potential to provide units in return for stock off-market. The fund provides its investors with a cost-effective access to the stockmarket. Thus investors can effectively gain access to all the securities contained in the portfolio of the S&P/ASX 50 Index through just one transaction.
