Union
As the 21 days of negotiations expire, Qantas (QAN) says they are committed to reaching an agreement with the Transport Workers Union (TWU), and the pilots' and aircraft engineer's union by midnight tonight, but the three unions believe otherwise. Qantas Spokeswoman Olivia Wirth said, "We're very much committed to these negotiations and we hope that we can come to a settlement."
After the loss of 1000 jobs, unions are now seeking a no-confidence vote against Qantas (ASX:QAN) chief executive Alan Joyce, which sent the airlines' shares plummeting yesterday.
A lull in the negativity came when the competition regulator gave the green light for a Qantas-American Airlines alliance, but this did not last long as shares dropped a record low of 3 cents to $1.42.
Two planes from Qantas (ASX:QAN) were diverted in just a space of two days this week, adding more fuel to the ongoing dispute between the union and the airline's management. According to the pilots they were being pressured to carry minimum amounts of fuel to cut costs causing diversions. Qantas on the other hand, says the union is ''scaremongering'' passengers.
Qantas (ASX:QAN) is facing industrial campaigns from engineers, pilots, and baggage handlers unions over job security. Chief Executive Alan Joyce calls it a “kamikaze” campaign that will kill jobs. Joyce believes that the airline was singled out by unions who want to deliver job security which was undeliverable.
Air New Zealand (ASX:AIZ) solidifies its trans-Tasman partnership with Virgin Blue airlines with a push to sell the trans-Tasman product starting July 1, said Air NZ general manager Cam Wallace.
Renowned domestic and global air transportation service provider Qantas Airways (QAN) has denied the claims presented by the union that a number of female employees were sacked by the company due to gender biasness. According to the Union, as many as fourteen female workers lost their jobs in the last month that were replaced by male workers who were able to double as the baggage handlers.
