I've long wondered why some companies that are listed on the Australian sharemarket have the NL suffix to their company name. What does N.L. mean? A company name must indicate the company's legal status. A proprietary company must include the word 'Proprietary' or the abbreviation 'Pty' in its name. A company must also indicate the liability of its members in its name:

• if the liability is limited, the company name must end with the word 'Limited' or the abbreviation 'Ltd'

Where is the best place to go to learn how to invest in the stock market?

I would like to know how to understand the stock market and how to use it to my advantage. Where would be the best place to begin learning about this subject and then learning how to apply it without destroying my financial future.

I'm a trader - I earn a living trading the markets. But for investors its a whole different world. Investors have totally different goals to traders.

Can I purchase stocks on my own or do I have to use a broker or an online trading company?

You can acquire stocks in the following manner:
1. Gift - they are given to you as part of your salary or Christmas present.
2. Dividend reinvesment plan
3. Direct on-market purchase through a broker
4. Sometimes from the company if they are issuing more shares
5. If brand new company - buy shares from IPO
6. Through executing derivatives such as options

Where, as an Individual Trader, can you potentially realize the HIGHEST return?
In principle, would that be Stocks, Options, Futures, Forex, Hedge Funds or what? I’m not necessarily concerned about the inherent RISKS involved, but the highest potential in terms of return on investment (i.e. money at risk). Please justify your answer.

First of all - you should focus your learning on one or the other. I'm a trader myself and trading and investing are two totally different things.

You can't do much with $200 in investment terms...

However there are derivative instruments that you can use to gear yourself for a higher exposure. Altough on the flip side these instruments introduce greater risks.
