Nufarm Buys US Sunflower Seed Company


Australian agricultural chemicals maker Nufarm (NUF) expands its seeds business by buying the American sunflower seed company Seeds 2000 for $53.83 million. Sunflower is an important oilseed and snackfood crop to the company as it produces 32 million metric tonnes of grain every year.

Nufarm Positive After Losses


Nufarm (ASX:NUF) remains upbeat for the new financial year as it forecast a boost in underlying earnings despite a loss of nearly $50 million due to one-off write-downs.

The farm chemicals group posted a net loss of $49.9 million for the 12 months to the end of July, up from a $22 million loss last year. Without the $148 million losses, however, underlying profit rose 68 percent to $98.2 million.

Nufarm writes down $21 million in profits


Nufarm Limited (ASX:NUF) was forced to cut down its full year profits by $21 million due to a dispute with a supplier. It was unable to reach an agreement with the disgruntled supplier over claims related to their sales of glyphosate, which is one of the company's main ingredients for weed killers.

Japan's Sumitomo Boosts Nufarm Stake to 21.7%


After Nufarm Limited (ASX:NUF) chief Doug Rathbone sold 4.5 million shares to Japanese firm Sumitomo Chemicals, Sumitomo said that it plans to further increase the stake by adding 1.3 percent to the 21.7 percent already acquired. According to the Sumitomo statement, the purchase of additional shares is planned in the next six months.
