Village Roadshow (VRL) is a global entertainment and media company principally focused on operating theme parks, film distribution, cinema, radio and film Production and music. VRL is the owner and operator of Theme Parks on Queensland's Gold Coast, including Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World, Wet'n'Wild Water World and Australian Outback Spectacular, along with Sea World Resort and Warner Roadshow Studios. The Company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 26 February, 1987 and it is headquartered in Melbourne. The Company operates two radio stations in Australia, Triple M and Today through Austereo. Austereo is a separately listed entity, in which VRL holds a majority shareholding of about 60%. As of February 19, 2008, the Company held a 91.74% interest in Sydney Attractions Group Limited. It completed the takeover of Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, a water park in Hawaii in May 2008. VRL is also planning other water parks for Phoenix, Arizona and other sites in Australia. The Company operates film distribution business in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Greece. It operates a global cinema circuit of around 660 screens in 67 separate sites. The Company also operates a movie production business in Los Angeles. These businesses provide a strong cash flow for the Company.

Village Roadshow History

VRL began operations in 1954 by launching its first drive-in cinemas in Australia located in the Melbourne suburb of Croydon. It progressively expanded its portfolio of drive-ins cinema circuit along with traditional cinemas. During 1960’s, VRL entered into the film distribution business and into the film production business in the 70s. During 80’s the Company developed multiplex cinema complexes. It diversified into theme parks and radio business in the 90s. The company underwent a "back door" ASX listing via De Laurentis Entertainment Limited, acquired by the Company in 1988. Later De Laurentis Entertainment Limited was renamed to Village Roadshow Limited. In 1992, VRL launched Movie World and acquired Sea World. It opened Australian Outback Spectacular in 2006. VRL has formed a new Los Angeles based diversified entertainment division known as Village Roadshow Entertainment Group by merging its Village Roadshow Pictures arm with Concord Music Group.
