Warehouse Group (WHS) is a retailer of general merchandise and stationery with operations in New Zealand. The Company retails an extensive range of products ranging from apparel, entertainment, technology and music to sporting, gardening, grocery and several others. These products are made available to customers through the Company’s chain of stores in Australasia. The warehouse Group listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 20 November, 2000. WHS operates a network of 85 chain stores and 43 stationery stores throughout New Zealand with around 8,500 people employed in the Company. During 2007, the Company’s sales amounted to $NZ 1.76 billion.
The Company has experienced growth over the years and today it has partnerships with some major designers and well reputed New Zealand based companies such as World Design, Cadbury, Mattel, Wiltshire, Vodafone, Mambo, Sanitarium & Sanyo. WHS has been involved in the retailing business for more than 25 years. Its mission is to conduct the business in a socially and environmentally responsible manner for the benefit of its customers, people and community. The Company values its customers and it is committed to make their life easier by offering them with a range of choices as well as an innovative and unique shopping experience at an affordable prices.
Warehouse Group History
Warehouse Group was established by Stephen Tindall in 1982, with opening of its first store in Takapuna, Auckland. In 1991 it opened its first Warehouse Stationary store. In 1992, the Company became publicly listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and launched The Warehouse card. In 1995, it was included to the NZSE40 Index. It also introduced the green gardening department the same year. In 1996 it opened North Island Distribution Centre and rolled out major AEG brand. In 1998 it entered in to the apparel business and made its first shipping of parallel imported goods. In 2000 it was included to the NZSE10 index. In 2001, the Company launched The Warehouse Financial Services and opened The Warehouse Extra in 2007.
