Woodside Pays to Settle Discrimination Claim


Woodside Petroleum (ASX:WPL) has agreed to pay a $170,000 settlement to a former female executive to close a sexual discrimination case. The company maintains that this was done not in admission to the claim, but because it was the best way to conclude the case for both parties.

Woodside Hits Gas at Xeres-1


Woodside Petroleum (ASX:WPL) reported today that it has discovered gas reserves at its Xeres-1 well in Western Australia.

Woodside,--which has a full equity interest in Xeres-1--along with joint venture partners WA-34-L Tokyo Gas and Kansai Electric, stand to acquire a 5 percent interest in the well.

The well is about 12 kilometres from the Pluto-1 discovery in licence WA-34-L, Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia.

Woodside Names Peter Coleman as Next CEO


Woodside Petroleum (ASX:WPL) has appointed previous ExxonMobil Development Company vice president Peter Coleman to succeed current chief executive Don Voelte. Coleman commences his new top duties on May 30.

Coleman spent 27 years at ExxonMobil holding the vice presidency of the company's Americas region prior to being development company vice president. Coleman is an Australian citizen, originally coming from Sale in Victoria.

Government Causes Delay on Woodside Project


Delays and tensions mount over Woodside Petroleum's (ASX:WPL) Sunrise project. The Government of East Timor demanded the gas processing to be done on land but Woodside prefers a floating facility. Woodside holds a 33.4 percent interest in the Greater Sunrise gas development in the Timor Sea North of Australia.

BHP Quashes Woodside Takeover Speculation


Mining giant BHP Billiton Ltd. dispelled speculation that it is preparing a multibillion-dollar takeover bid for the oil-and-gas carrier Woodside Petroleum (ASX:WPL). Speculation has been renewed following reports from the UK Sunday Times that BHP was negotiating first with Royal Dutch Shell, the largest shareholder of Woodside (with 24 percent stake), before taking a full takeover bid worth US$50 billion.
