Zimplats Holdings (ZIM) is an exploration, development and production company solely focused on the platinum group metals from the Great Dyke located in Zimbabwe. ZIM retains a portfolio of around 165 million ounces of platinum resources in the Great Dyke. ZIM is a registered foreign company trading on ASX. It listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 15th October, 1998.
ZIM owns around two thirds of the Hartley Complex which is one of the largest platinum containing centres of the Great Dyke. As at June 30, 2008 the Company produced 1,301,000 tons from open pit operations which made up 53% of the total ore production, with the total underground ore production amounted to 1,145,000 tons. Of this tonnage, 978 000 tons were produced from Portal 2 whist Portal 1, which is ramping up to full production, produced 155,000 tons. Zimplats is a part of the Impala Group of Companies. As at September 2005 Impala had more than 86% shares in the Company.
The Company aims to operate the business in a socially and environmentally responsible manner which is beneficial for its shareholders, staff and Zimbabwe. Through a combination of advanced technology, highly skilled staff and management team, the Company is focused on creating wealth for its shareholders by developing its mineral resource. The Company has potential to become a leading supplier of platinum in future.
Zimplats Holdings History
Zimbabwe Platinum Mines (Zimplats) was formed by Delta Gold Limited (Delta) in 1998 with the purpose of acquiring all the platinum interests of Delta. ZIM gained substantial platinum fields and processing facilities through the acquisition of BHP's 67% interest held in the Hartley Platinum Joint Venture and 61.3% interest held in the Mhondoro Platinum Joint Venture in May 1999. The Company produced platinum from its Ngezi mine, located adjacent to its Hartley site in 2001. ZIM is targeting an annual production of 2.2 million tonnes of ore from its Ngezi Platinum Mine by opencast mining operations.
