Origin Energy Limited (ORG) Company History
Origin Energy Limited (ORG) was formerly known as Bitumen and Oil Refineries. It changed its name to Boral and it owned its first Australian refinery at the end of 1940s. In 1950s, they started to expand and the company reached out into production and handling of LP Gas. Acquiring the supply of gas, that included 28 gas companies all over the eastern countries and states of the Australia, Boral expanded its regional range of its energy businesses in the 1960s and began supplying LP Gas to different locations around Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea.
Acquiring the Victorian natural gas seller, Energy 21, and investment in coal seam gas production, exploration and interests assets in Otway Basin, the company started to have a presence throughout the energy industry in the late 90s. After that year, there was a break-up between the energy business and the construction and building material business in 2000. The new energy company was already known as the Origin Energy. The year after the de-merging, an electricity retail company and Gasmart were acquired by the company called the Powercor.
In 2006, Australasia's largest best energy group was found with the partnership of Origin and Contact but their individual stock exchange and individual identities are maintained. Subsequently, Origin Energy discovering a new gas in Surat Basin, Queensland won SAFSA funding about 2006 and within the same year, they broke the merger agreement.
