Traders EXPO New York 2008

I was planning a trip to Las Vegas to attend a conference there when I came across Kathy Lien's blog which listed the Traders EXPO New York 2008. Fortunately, the expo was a week before the Vegas conference so I decided to hop on along to New York. The trip from Sydney was enjoyable, the on-board entertainment options was enough to keep the time flying by.

Bestselling Trading Books

Forget other trading books. These top 10 bestselling trading books are the best of the crop. I’m not saying that this collection of authors were the first to come up with some of these brilliant trading strategies and ideas, but as a body of knowledge, this group of books would give you a comprehensive trading knowledgebase and the trading books would be a great addition to your trading library. I’ve personally read them, some of them reside on my bookshelf and I highly recommend you read them.

The house always wins

In the stockmarket, for every trade that is buyer and a seller. In a theoretical, highly efficient market: if the seller puts in $50 into the market – the buyer would also take out $50. But we've been told a lie. Trading is a minus sum game. In reality, the seller would be really selling $45 worth and the buyer, gets $45 worth of stock. So where does the $10 ($5 + $5 on both sides) go?

Short Selling in a Falling Market

Professional share traders and investors who trade and invest money for a living use sophisticated methods in their line of work one of which is short selling. You may or may not know that you can actually make money in the sharemarket (stockmarket for our American counterparts) anytime - it doesn't matter if the market is trending up and very bullish, stagnant and going sideways or falling in a bearish market situation.

Corporate Misconduct

In this special article, we will look at corporate misconduct in Australia. We will examine what it is, some history, examine why these corporate executives misbehave and look at the current case of corporate misconduct in the courts.

What is Corporate Misconduct?

Corporate misconduct is all about the misbehaviour of corporations. It's about the responsibility that the company executive carry when they join the board of directors. The directors have a fiduciary duty to act honestly, in good faith and in the best of their ability serve the best interests of the company.

Trading Incompetence

I was surfing radio channels this morning when I overheard this quote from a market commentator: "...thank god for the resource boom - its masking our incompetence." As our markets are in uncertain times - Having the recent market crashes and the possibility of a recession in the United States. (I haven't been following the figures - but when are they going to call it?) [Aside: In macroeconomics, a recession is a decline in a country's gross domestic product (GDP), or negative real economic growth, for two or more successive quarters of a year.] Where are we headed?

Inflation in China

Have you ever stopped to think: What would be the effect of inflation in China affect us? About ten years ago a decent sized donut at my local shops would cost 80 cents. Now they would be 2 dollars. Sunny boys (ice blocks) would be around 40 cents and now they could fetch up to $1.20 for a bit of flavoured ice. Now, everything around is made in China. The peanut butter I ate this morning came from China, the laptop I'm typing on is Chinese, my seat is Chinese as well as probably all my luxury products like Clothes, TV's and DVD players.
