Yancoal Australia (YAL) is Australia's largest listed pure-play coal producers (if not the largest). Yancoal is the ninth largest pure-play coal company globally (based on reserves). The company owns open cut and underground coal mines in the Hunter Valley and mid-Western region of New South Wales and open cut mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. In 2009, Yancoal completed a successful takeover of Felix Resources for $3.3 billion. In July 2012, Yancoal completed an $8 billion merger with Gloucester Coal, and following the listing of Yancoal on the ASX in June 2012, Yancoal became one of Australia's largest listed pure-play coal producers.

Yancoal also manages on behalf of its major shareholder, Yanzhou Coal Mining Company, an open cut mine in Western Australia’s Collie Coal Basin south of Perth and an open cut mine in Queensland's Surat Basin.
